Curriculum

In Year 12, all students are required to study three Level 3 courses as well as completing an enrichment course in either the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA), AS Level Further Mathematics or GCSE resit English and / or Mathematics if they have not achieved a minimum of a C grade in Year 11. All Year 12 students must also complete the AHS Active Citizenship Award (30 hours of school based volunteering). Students who are academically strong enough may in addition study a fourth subject. A compulsory Work Experience week is also a requirement as is attendance at all Wednesday and Thursday morning Post-16 Briefings and Tutor registrations and Tutor periods.

To progress into Year 13, students must pass or be on track to pass (if their courses are not examined at the end of Year 12) at least three of their courses at E grade / Pass or above as well as completing their enrichment course and Active Citizenship Award. Due to changes in government Post-16 funding and progression requirements, students will no longer be able to repeat Year 12 with us unless they select three new subjects.

In Year 13 students normally continue to study three of their subjects for a second year. Students who have completed their CSLA can progress this to Higher Sports Leaders Award (HSLA). Any student that has not achieved a C grade at GCSE English or Mathematics must resit the course again in Year 13.

Students in both year groups also have timetabled study periods outside of their main lessons.
