2017 GCSE results – well done Year 11!
Congratulations to our Year 11 students who after weeks of waiting finally opened their GCSE and BTEC results today. Some outstanding results were achieved this year with 12.5% of all students achieving a minimum of 5 A*-A grades or equivalent and 6.5% of all students achieving 8 or more A*-A grades or equivalent.
58% of students achieved a standard pass of 4 or better in both English and Maths, a considerable increase from the 2016 position of 42%. Five grade 9s, the new top grade, were also achieved (1 in English and 4 in Maths) which is a great effort on the part of these students and their teachers. These achievements are particularly pleasing within the context of new, more demanding GCSE English and Maths courses which were being examined for the first time this year.
There were many fantastic individual performances, and some worth noting include 14 students who achieved an A*-A grade in all areas of their core GCSE programme of study. Tara Blyth and Frankie Thomson each achieved a magnificent 11 A*-A grades. Jordan Elliot and Jade Waddle secured 10 A*-A grades, whilst Sophie Bryce, Elise Elliot, Amelia Purdy, Lewis Shotton, Georgia Sobey and Courtney Stewart all recorded 9 A*-A grades. Finally, Luke Ammari, Alex McBride, Matthew McCormack, and Jake Pickering received 8A*-A grades. Well done to this group of students; superb efforts!
Overall this Year 11 cohort has been a pleasure to work with over the last three years and we are very proud of their efforts and successes. We would like to congratulate students, their families and our staff for their achievements this summer – 22 out of 25 GCSE or BTEC courses offered improved their outcomes from last year which is a huge positive for all involved.
Our best wishes go to those Year 11 students who are leaving us, and we wish them luck as they move onto the next step of their education, employment or training. For those students choosing to come back and study in Post 16 at AHS next year, see you in September Year 12!
